LETS DEBRIEF ABOUT METABOLISM

Let’s Dive into the World of Metabolism

Metabolism is the orchestra of our body, harmonising the symphony of both our active and passive functions. It’s the maestro that regulates our bodily functions, keeping us healthy and energised. Imagine a lake that’s stagnant - that’s what a sluggish metabolism can feel like. Everything slows down, and this can be a significant risk factor for various chronic illnesses. These illnesses can stack up, leading to debilitating health conditions and an ungraceful ageing process.

The goal is to age gracefully, be timeless, to maintain flexibility in mind, body, and spirit. Striving for optimal health is enhanced by something called metabolic flexibility.

Metabolic Flexibility: The Key to Health

Metabolic flexibility means you’re not rigidly adhered to any set routine. You can alternate between different feeding and fasting windows while maintaining good blood sugar balance, energy levels, and appetite. This flexibility can help you avoid, or at least delay, the onset of chronic illnesses.

The chronic illnesses we primarily want to avoid include type two diabetes, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver, and obesity.

Understanding Your Metabolism

The only way to truly understand your metabolism is through self-assessment. Observe yourself for a few days and monitor the following markers:

  1. Appetite: What foods do you choose to eat? How often are you eating? What quantities of food are you consuming? What are you craving?

  2. Emotional Component: How does your emotional state affect your eating habits? What are your fasting and feeding windows? Do you have metabolic flexibility?

  3. Exercise: Do you exercise? If so, when and how? How is your energy level? What exercises do you resist, and what are you doing well?

  4. Body Composition: Do you have excess fat around your belly? Do you think your digestion is good? Do you suspect you have a fatty liver? Any chronic illnesses like high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, obesity, or type two diabetes?

After your self-assessment, it might be time to get some blood tests to confirm your observations. Consult with your naturopath or healthcare practitioner for guidance.
